About Mojo On The Web
Hello! I’m your host, Mustafa Fathy, creator and responsible for just about everything on this site. This is Mojo On The Web, where I’ve been writing my thoughts down about technology, management, software development, and business since 2008. However recently, I’ve decided to add a new section to it where I can showcase my professional work as I go along with my professional career, as I’ve been losing track of the small and big things that I’ve done in the past thats worth mentioning!!
My Story So Far
Born in the USA, I grew up in Buffalo, New York. Where in 1989, I was exposed to both realms of computer systems, The Apple & The PC. My father was hardcore on apple back then using it for writing all his college work on it, while my mother was all about her IBM AS/400 working on her college projects. Being exposed from such a young age to computers made me pick up the pace alot and then I started to become curious wondering where is it all coming from? how is it all being done? Which at some point I was looking into my mom’s books till I stumbled into my 1st programming language book. C for dummies. And off I went from there. I’ve been moving around ever since with my family where I’ve travelled to the Sultanate of Oman, the UAE, and Egypt which is here I am right now.
I came back to the states for my 1st year of college at SMC, funny enough I was majoring in something completely different than CS, I joined into mechanical engineering. It was fun, but then I realized that wasn’t my place. So I decided to go back to Egypt and complete my studies due to certain personal family issues at the time. I joined the Arab Academy for Science and Technology and majored in what I love the best, Computer Science. My Senior Thesis was creating a texted-based MMORPG, the idea was really simple, kinda like what you guys find out around now like mafia wars, the crims, and many more… only I had a twist where using flash I was able to bring in a second aspect to the game where the duels can be controlled by the players instead of being automated and algorithmic based on certain player stats. Overall, it was FUN.
Diving Into Work
During College I had a plethora of jobs, from being a System Administrator in Internet Cafes administering game servers and user times, to freelancing with clients on www.rentacoder.com. I was also part of an international student organization for 4 years called AIESEC, starting off as a normal member on the student outgoing exchange team and working my way till I’ve reach one of the greatest postions as being Member Comittee VP for Information Systems for the country of Colombia, unfortunately that opportunity didn’t go through as I couldn’t afford going due to the time constraints that occured. so I moved on and kept slacking around to figure out what was I going to do with my life.
In 2007, I joined TayaIT, a startup internet company that is dedicated to serve the Arab speakers of the internet. from Search Solutions, to customized Enterprise solution for governments and multinationals. I started off as a Team leader of a small team of developers that I had to hand-pick out of stacks of CV’s, during that time I came out with TayaIT’s Arabic Search Engine. and in 6 months I became their Senior Systems Analyst where I worked on higher level aspects of the majority of our products right now (soon to be added in my protfolio once they go live).
Currently I’m still working at TayaIT, I’m now the Senior Online Product Designer. Since then, I became more acquainted with managing my time and was able to fit in a personal small start-up I’m making which is MojoApps where I’m currently developing Applications for the iPhone. You’ll be able to see all my work on that aspect in my portfolio section along with all my other work.
